at the santa rosa sheriff's department with new details about the very suspicious death. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, laura and jon. sheriff's deputies are trying to get to the bottom of a very disturbing situation that started with an investigation of a suspicious car near sonoma state university. suspicious because of where it was parked. in the end they ended up finding a body in the trunk of a car wrapped in a blanket. they have not identified the victim or even how this person died but their investigation started around 6:30 last night with a car left in a no parking zone on petaluma hill road. a check of the license plate showed the car was tied to a person wanted for questioning in a crime that happened on friday near santa rosa. deputies looked closer and found evidence inside that they thought my have been tied to that crime on friday. they're not revealing a lot of information on what that crime was. again they looked closer. they found that the trunk was unlocked and inside was that body wrapped in a blanket. a lieutenant says the location and the conditi

rosa is in there and fairfield is very close, it is going to be very, sunny, there are some high clouds and temperatures are inching up near the coast and bay, here is sal. >>> let's go to some live pictures. it looks pretty good on 880 and some of the road workup on high street is not causing any problems with traffic. 101 traffic does look good approaching the 880 split. let's go to breaking news. >>> right now several crews from fire agencies are battling a fire near the bridge. they say the fire is burning a large building right near the waterfront. we have a news crew near the bridge, a fire, we will have a live report coming up. >>> we are following a fire in sonoma county. a body was found in a car near sonoma university. the sheriff's office said they learned the car was linked to a man wanted for questioning by santa rosa police. they say the trunk was unlocked and the body was locked in a blanket. sheriff's are treating this as is suspicious. >>> a man jumped into the water to flee police. he has been missing since december 24 when he stopped him on suspicion of drunk driving.

university. we have been working this story all morning. we're live at the sheriff's office in santa rosa with the details. >> reporter: i just spoke with investigators, and they tell me that the body found in that trunk is that of a 31-year-old man, a sonoma county resident, who was actually a suspect in a domestic violence incident just last week in santa rosa. now, the car that he was found stuffed in was on petaluma hill will road which happens to go past sonoma state university but the school was not involved at all. it was about 6:30 last night when two deputies noticed a car in a no parking zone. they got out and actually saw blood in the driver's side seat. that car had been tied to a domestic violence incident last week in santa rosa so that's what raised the red flag. it turns out the car had been sitting there since saturday. investigators saw that the trunk was unlocked and found the victim dead, wrapped in a blanket. now, they're not saying how he was killed, but they do say he had a criminal history and that could be related to all this. and it's possible he was killed somew

. and maybe the 20s continuing into thursday's forecast. here we go. we will start off with 27 in santa rosa. and 26 in napa, 34 in fremont, and 33 in san jose, and our coldest spot is at gilroy at an estimated 25 degrees. now that 25 will be more than ten degrees below our average low, but here is some good news. it's not going to be the coldest morning ever in gilroy. that happened in 1963 when gilroy topped out at 18 degrees for a morning low. there's something to make you feel not so bad about weaking up with temperatures in the mid 20s. we will see san jose top out at 56, 54 in palo alto. and dublin, 51 and 53 in heyward. and san francisco 53, and 56 in santa rosa. on your three-day forecast. drew through thursday and then through the forecast, we have plenty of sunshine coming our way in the up coming weekend. it's not going to get warm or mild but temperatures will eventually bump up to the 60s here as we head throughout friday. so, definitely not a heat spell, but i think you will notice a difference as we head throughout friday's forecast. >> 60s seem boiling hot. >> i know, right?

in santa rosa. a new twist, amy? >> yes, a new twist. the man was found in the trunk of his own car. right now investigators are processing that car. here is a look at the car. detectives believe someone left it on petaluma hill road on saturday. the deputies found it last night. they found the body of a 31-year-old man inside the trunk of the car. they discovered blood in the driver's seat. they believe the blood is of his girlfriend from an incident that happened friday night. >> domestic violence incident that occurred in santa rosa on friday night involving our deceased and his girlfriend. we don't know at this time if that incident is related to what occurred here or if there was some or factors involveed. >> he was the suspect in the domestic violence. investigators say she was the victim. they say she is not a suspect in his murder. they have talkd to her and they have cleared her. they don't know who killed him. they are looking for clues. he was killed soon after the domestic dispute. they say the two have a history of domestic violence. investigators are not releasing his name at

lows will be chilly in spots around freezing there in santa rosa at about 32, 33 degrees in the napa valley and 39 degrees in oakland. of course, we had some 20s this morning so not as cold but still chilly early on. over the next couple of days, high pressure building in. tomorrow we should begin to see some more 60s showing up outside. i think some spring-like temperatures maybe some mid-60s through thursday and friday. and right now, at least the next five to seven days, look dry but on the long-range computer models i think toward the end of next week, a major change in the pattern again. this is pretty typical. we get a dry spell in the middle of winter and then right back into it. winter comes roaring back into the bay area. >> we'll just savor the next week then. i need to get my kids outside to go to the park. >> what are you doing? >> she's working. >> keeping them inside.
